Dear Corvallis Community Thrift Shop Scholarship,

I am writing to express my sincere gratitude for being selected as a recipient of the Corvallis Community Thrift Shop Scholarship. This scholarship is a generous contribution to my future schooling and a wonderful reminder of the value of community and connection.

With this support, I am able to focus more on the academic aspect of my studies and less on the financial aspect. I feel more confident about continuing my education and seeing my plan through to completion. I am currently majoring in Psychology and plan to pursue a doctorate in Psychology with an emphasis on childhood psychology and development. This scholarship brings me closer to my goal.

I feel grateful and connected to my community in the valley. I am motivated to increase my connection with those around me with a reminder that support comes from the most unexpected places. I am genuinely amazed by the generosity of those I have never met and see (or read) of potential in me. I will continue to strive for excellence in my studies with the support of your kind gift.

Thank you once again for giving me the opportunity to fulfill the schooling I have set out to complete. I know that childhood psychology is where I am meant to be. I know I can give back and help nurture and heal those in our community who are being presented with obstacles and challenges so early on in their lives.

A Letter from Jesus Moreno Rangel

Dear Corvallis Community Thrift Shop,

Thank you so much for believing in me and supporting my dream of pursuing a career in Construction Engineering Management. My first term of college was amazing thanks to your wonderful support!

In just a matter of 10 weeks, I was able to expand my knowledge in high level classes that I could only dream of as a high school student! For example, in my PH 211 (Physics 1) class, I learned how to problem solve using analytical thinking. In my ENGR 211 (Statics) class, I learned how to design trusses and beams using shear force and moment diagrams. In my CEM 263 (Plane Surveying) class, I conducted control, mapping, and topographic surveys using instruments such as levels, total stations, and GPS. In my ECON 201 (Microeconomics) class, I learned how to maximize labor productivity and minimize costs using concepts such as the production function and the value of the marginal product of labor. Lastly in my ENGR 100 (Intro to Engineering) class, I learned how to work effectively in teams while designing, building, and managing the budget and schedule of a bridge project. Thanks to your support, all of these classes have provided me with a strong foundation and knowledge base that I will be able to apply throughout the rest of my career.

Your support has made me fall in love with my education and it inspires me everyday to always give my 101% in and out of the classroom. As I prepare for my transition from Linn Benton Community Community College (LBCC) to Oregon State University (OSU), I am excited to continue learning and making the most out of my academic journey!

The Corvallis Community Thrift Shop Scholarship has truly changed my life. I will forever be grateful and hold close to my heart the ways in which this wonderful scholarship has helped and inspired me throughout my first year of college. It is thanks to you that I feel more than ready to continue falling in love with my career, while giving back and inspiring a future generation of leaders along the way.
